Abstract: Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis is a condition characterized by a fibro collagenous membrane encasing the small bowel, resulting in recurrent small bowel obstructions. This condition is mainly secondary to peritoneal dialysis, although it can be present in cases of systemic inflammatory disease or cases of previous peritonitis. Many cases remain idiopathic. Due to its rarity and insidious onset, diagnosis is still challenging as there are no laboratory markers, specific symptoms or characteristic or pathognomonic imaging findings. This condition has both an inflammatory and a fibrotic stage with no clear impact on the treatment strategy. We report the case of a 45-year-old-female patient under peritoneal dialysis with an acute onset intestinal obstruction in which following a failed conservative approach an urgent laparotomy was required and a peritonectomy was performed.
