Perforation of the appendix by a foreign body: A case report

Abstract: Foreign body ingestion is a common occurrence. In some cases, they can enter the appendiceal lumen and remain silent for many years without causing an inflammatory reaction. Acute foreign body appendicitis is a rare entity with an incidence of 0.0005% of all cases of appendicitis. We present a 60-year-old woman with accidental ingestion of a pin that caused perforation of the appendix. The treatment of appendiceal foreign bodies is a challenge for the surgeon. In the absence of associated complications, conservative treatment with spontaneous or endoscopic removal of the foreign body can be attempted.
